This film will be best shot in 35mm black and white film
A young man returns home one night to find a mysterious briefcase waiting for him at the doorstep. A top the briefcase is a note with a sinister message. The man shakes this off, disposing of the briefcase, but to no avail as the briefcase returns and with it another note this time creepier than the first. The man is plunged into a quiet panic as he begins to question what is going on as well as the reality of the situation. Until the denouement when the man begins to questions his life and sanity and thus makes a fatal decision.
This film will feature a small cast, we have the main character who is John Jones a 19-year-old white man who has just started university. He is of average height and has brown hair and brown eyes. He is a shy man, an introvert has always kept himself to himself and so doesn't really have friends and doesn't really go out. This also leads to him being an overthinker and over worrier, two aspects that will play heavily into the narrative of this film. Another character is the unknown antagonist, who seems to be toying with the man however through deeper cognitive ideas littered throughout the film we will begin to question with the man. Whether what is happening is real or not.
There will be other smaller speaking roles such as a 999 operator and the main character's father. However, these will be very minor and for the most part, it will be a two-person cast.
The genre of the film will be a psychological thriller, as well as horror and torment.
I think the target audience of this film would be anyone interested in the horror genre or psychological thrillers. I think it would be aimed at ages 16-25 but also middle-aged adults.
The setting would be in a quiet unassuming British neighborhood. The primary location would be in and around the main characters' home as he gets supposedly tormented by the unknown character.
The main prop will be the briefcase it’s a mysterious item that suggests the genre to be a thriller. The sinister notes that are left on top of the briefcase will also serve as iconography of the horror genre due to their creepy and dark messages.
The man’s deteriorating mental state as he continues to get tormented by notes and the unrelenting briefcase no matter how many times he gets rid of it. This is very typical of a psychologically-based film as it is focusing on a character's brain and their state of mind.
The idea of being watched by an unknown figure is very typical of the horror genre as it promotes an idea of fear and uncertainty, as well as vulnerability. Due to the idea that when you are at home you are safe but this isn’t always the case.
The main underlying theme throughout this film is to make sure you deal with any signs of potential mental deterioration. As well as leaving the audience questioning whether it was all in his head
