1) Describe the principles of four point lighting?
3 point lighting consists of a key light a back light and a fill light. The key light is the main light used to illustrate the main character or the subject of the scene. The fill light is usually placed to one side of the key light and helps to balance it out and finally the back light is placed behind the subject and is used as a method of separating them from the background. To change it into 4 point lighting the filmmaker can include a second back light which is used to to create an effect o the background

2) Describe some of the different examples of lighting that we have covered how are they different and what is the impact?
In 'my name is Joe' the lighting is all natural daylight this makes the scene seem more realistic and relatable. This is impactful as the film aims to be a relatable realistic story and by using realistic lighting this atmosphere comes of stronger. Another example of lighting is in 'Far from Heaven' in this scene the women on the left has a strong light on her back which illuminates the back of her hair and her features whereas the man on the right remains in the dark until he looks up at her and we can see a small spotlight shining on his eye this is impactful as it makes us feel sorry for them na as he seems to be in a tough situation. Finally in 'Sin City' the lighting is very lowkey with various key lights and fill lights highlighting the characters in particular the women's blonde hair which is shown to be 'hot' with the light shining very powerfully on it and making it stand out.
