The Shining- The Shining is a very interesting film that tackles the main theme of how isolation and a general lack of interaction, both physical and verbal can cause a man's slow descent into madness. When Stanley Kubrick went about making this adaptation he was met with a lot of backlashes especially from Stephen king the writer of the book. 'Kubrick's' version of 'The Shining' used the idea of one man's steadily declining sanity as a way of conveying the genre. In my personal opinion, this was tackled really well and served as a very interesting way to keep the psychological thriller genre fresh and exciting. The Shing is also clever in the way it poses open-ended questions with seemingly no answer, the most memorable of these would be the final shot of the film in which we see a picture on the wall from 1921. The picture features Jack Torrence at the front and the audience is left wondering whether what we just watched actually happened or whether it was just a creation of a mentally ill socially deprived man. I honestly dont think there is a particualr target auidnece for this film, as due to the screenplay differing heavily from that of Stephen Kings original work its possible that fans of the book woudnly actually like the film. If I were to pick out the main auidence it would most likley be fans of pyscholigcal thirllers rather than fans of the book.

Shutter Island- This film is very similar to our own in its fantaticly executed twist towards the end of the film. Shutter Island has very tpyical ichonography of the pyscohligcal thirler genre such as mentally ill patients and an overall sense of misturst and confusion in the atmosphere. The film for the most part sticks to typical reprsentation by having the two main leads be male detectives. The main charatcer treats the mentally ill patients as worse or below him for the majority of the film and this is quite eye opening as in the present day mentaly ill patients cna oftn be treated as if they are inferior to regualr people. However the best part of this film comes in the build up and execution of the twist at the end. Throughout the whole film there are obvious things that can point you to the tist but it isnt until the second watch that you notice them this along with the complete unpredictabiltiy of it allows for a very shocking and brillianrt end to the film. I think the target auidence of the film would probably be fans of detetive style thirllers as well as fans or psycholigcal films. Another auidence that would watch this film are fans of the director Martin Scorsese as he directs this film.
